Meet the students of the HEC Montréal MBA

Why an MBA? Why HEC Montréal?

An MBA is the perfect opportunity for me to step back (a big step from Shanghai to Montreal!), to think deeply about my future and to develop skills before returning to the labor market.

HEC Montréal is an educational institution recognized worldwide and that allowed francophone talent to export elsewhere on the planet. Montreal is a fascinating city in North America and I sincerely hope to have the chance to continue my professional career here. Particularly, I would like to work in a francophone business community where there is a lot of diversity (however, this may change soon as I have not known Quebec winter). 😉

Tell us a bit about your career before the MBA.

I worked for two years as an auditor at Ernst & Young, Shanghai and for five years as financial manager in an SME in the textile industry, also in Shanghai.

Describe your ideal job in 5 words.

Achievement and recognition of my added value.

Game of Thrones or House of Cards ?

I definitely prefer House of Cards because in the end, who does not love power?

Such a waste of talent. He chose money over power. In this town, a mistake nearly everyone makes. Money is the McMansion in Sarasota that starts falling apart after 10 years. Power is the old stone building that stands for centuries. I cannot respect someone who doesn’t see the difference.

In 20 years, what will be your official job title?

I think it will probably be something like Fellow ACCA member (UK) + CPA, CGA (Canada) + PhD (a career without the title of PhD would be incomplete and great pity).

iPhone or Android?

Android system in combination with the brand Huawei or rather Blackberry.

Where was your most memorable trip?

As a foreign student who spent the first 30 years of my life in China, every day here in Montreal is so special to me, both academically and culturally.

Do you have any advice for future MBA students?

Strategically, make sure that the long-term benefits (learning, friendships, network) you’ll get at the end of this MBA program outweigh the costs (time, opportunity costs, etc.) you’ll invest.

Cats or dogs?

Dog…symbol of loyalty.
